Extended Essay

The extended essay is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper.

One component of the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) core, the extended essay is mandatory for all students.

Read about the extended essay in greater detail.

Here is a Libguide with everything the Class of 2018 needs to know to complete their Extended Essays.

Hours

Mondays through Friday's  7:45am to 4:00pm

Access

No passes are needed before school, lunch or after school.

During extended periods, only two students per class should be issued a library pass in order to preserve the academic nature of the period.

Policies

Baltimore City College Library strives to emulate a college library environment while recognizing the paradox of access. To cultivate this environment and maximize access, students should:

  • refrain from eating or drinking

  • engage quietly in collaborative work/academic conversation

  • keep music on portable devices at an acceptable minimum

  • respect shared resources, equipment, and furniture
